    Located in East San Diego County, La Mesa, or “the table” in Spanish, is a charming neighborhood filled with boutique restaurants, shops, highly-rated schools, and parks. La Mesa’s motto is the “Jewel of the Hills” and borders Spring Valley, Lemon Grove, El Cajon, Lake Murray, College East and Del Cerro. Founded in 1869 and incorporated in 1912, La Mesa is one of the larger neighborhoods in East County, with lots to see and do.     The Jewel of the Hills not only has plenty of shopping and eating options, it has a lot of events throughout the year. Every Friday they host a farmer’s market where you can find fresh produce and handmade goods. During June and July, Sundays at Six takes place where residents can watch free concerts at Harry Griffen Park. In addition, there is the large Oktoberfest Celebration which is attended by over 200,000 people. There is also the Christmas in the Village event and Antique Street Fair. Keep your calendars open because there is always something going on in La Mesa.

    La Mesa Schools

    La Mesa has two schools districts, the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District and the Grossmont Union High School District. There are public, charter and private schools in the area. Some of the top-rated schools include the public charter College Preparatory Middle School which has a 10/10 rating on, Helix Charter High School which has a 9/10 rating and Murdock Elementary School which also has a 9/10 rating.

    Parks and Recreation in La Mesa

    The city of La Mesa has 14 parks for people to choose from to get outside and stay active with their friends, family, kids, and dogs! Residents also enjoy using these parks to host birthday parties and other events. La Mesita Park has tennis courts, a skate park, and playground, while Harry Griffen Park is dog-friendly and hosts the summer concerts. Mt. Helix Park has an amphitheater that is available for rental if you wish to host an event. There are so many parks in La Mesa, odds are you will be able to find one within walking distance of your home.
