University Heights is a San Diego neighborhood located on a mesa between Hillcrest and North Park with Normal Heights and Kensington to the east and Mission Valley down below to the north. Centered around Park Boulevard and Adams Avenue, this eclectic area is made up of casual local eateries, boutiques, coffee shops, convenience stores, hip neighborhood bars, and a variety of housing, from Craftsman bungalows, to apartments, to million-dollar homes. Trolley Barn Park on Adams Avenue is a popular place for locals and families to enjoy outdoor activities.
Founded in 1888, the area was named “University” Heights because of nearby University Avenue and plans to build a university in the area (which later fell through).
